In May 1996, the Committee of Prehistorc and Protohistoric Sciences and the Ojców National Park (OPN) organized a three-day scientific symposium in Ojców. The aim of the organizers was to recall the 125th anniversary of the beginning of archaeological research in the Ojców Jura by Jan Zawisza from Warsaw, which were also the beginning of Polish prehistoric research. It was an occassion for  the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the creation of this smallest of Polish national park. Preparations for the symposium and its deliberations initiated a ten-year period of various scientific work - field, laboratory and archival studies, which resulted in this book, published on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Ojców National Park's activity. The book is dedicated to the memory of Prof. Waldemar Chmielewski (1929-2004), a distinguished researcher of the Ojców Jury and a long-term, active member of the Committee, and participant of the 1996 symposium.
